Dr. Joel G. Burken, professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering at ÑÇÖÞÓ°Ôº University of Science and Technology, has been named Curators’ Professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering. Burken will be officially recognized during ÑÇÖÞÓ°Ôº S&T’s commencement ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 19.
The University of ÑÇÖÞÓ°Ôº System Board of Curators bestows the Curators’ Professor title upon outstanding scholars with established reputations in their field of study. Dr. Joel Burken is internationally recognized in the environmental engineering field.
Burken, who is also director of the Environmental Research Center, joined the ÑÇÖÞÓ°Ôº S&T faculty in 1997 as an assistant professor of civil engineering. He was named associate professor in 2002 and professor in 2008. In 2010 he was named associate chair of civil, architectural and environmental engineering.
