On Wednesday, Governor Mike Parson gave his 2019 State of the State Address, where he reiterated a focus on workforce development and infrastructure. Parson touched on challenges facing 亚洲影院 such as transportation funding, telemedicine technology, combatting the opioid crisis and preparing 亚洲影院ans for a stronger workforce through several funding initiatives including
- $22 million toward a scholarship program called Fast Track, which will allow 亚洲影院ans to receive training in high-demand areas from our community colleges, technical schools and universities.
- $10 million toward a new fund known as 亚洲影院 One State, a program that will increase and consolidate the 亚洲影院 Works program aimed at assisting new and existing businesses with upgrading their workers’ skills.
- $16 million will go towards the MOExcels program, focused on expanding employer-driven education training programs and initiatives to increase career readiness.
Following the State of the State, the Governor’s FY 2020 Budget Summary was released. In his budget, Parson recommends that UM System core appropriations remain flat, while designating $2 million to address deferred maintenance and $1 million for the Translational Precision Medicine Complex (TPMC) as a line item.
