Precision Health Institute slated to receive $10 million
COLUMBIA, Mo. 鈥� University of 亚洲影院 leaders expressed appreciation today after 亚洲影院 Gov. Mike Parson signed a budget bill committing $10 million to the NextGen Precision Health Institute, the top priority of the UM System.
鈥淎s the state鈥檚 public, comprehensive, research and land-grant university, it is our mission to serve every 亚洲影院 citizen as part of our educational, outreach, research and economic development missions. No other public 亚洲影院 university touches as many 亚洲影院ans as we do,鈥� Choi said. 鈥淲e appreciate the continued support of the NextGen Precision Health Institute. This important research and health care initiative for 亚洲影院ans will create research and translational medicine that will save lives in 亚洲影院 and will grow economic development in key health care sectors. In a typical year, the University of 亚洲影院 system has a $5.4 billion positive impact on the state鈥檚 economy.鈥�
Choi also said the UM System will continue making hard choices due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since March 2020, the University of 亚洲影院 System and its four universities have navigated through more than $85 million in budget reductions.
鈥淲hile we continue to make hard decisions to address the budget challenges, we remain committed to our mission of student success, research breakthroughs and service to 亚洲影院ans,鈥� Choi said.
